Out of the sixteen contestants for American Idol, the herd has finally been winnowed down to twelve.

This week we got to witness a real hard-fight for survival by the remaining sixteen American Idol semi-finalists. Knowing that within an hour any four among them can be shown the door, all the contestants performed with vigour.

The Top 12 for the American Idol began with a performance by last year’s runner-up, Blake Lewis and  yes, his performance also included the usual 'beat-box' that he is known for. As was expected their was no group performance, but it did have too much judge chit-chat and not enough good constructive criticism.

Soon the performances were all done and the voters called in to cast doom for four unlucky Idols. First one to go was the lavender high-waisted stretchy pant wearing Asia’h Epperson. For her performance she tried a Whitney Houston song, "I Wanna Dance with Somebody."  Kady Malloy sang "Who Wants to Live Forever," by Queen and yes, as the way she sung it, people quite took the song literally, so she is gone too. It was 'Tainted Love' for Danny Noriega, who got a piece of the real Simon Cowell before he could say goodbye. Simon said "I thought it was horrible, the whole thing. Absolutely useless. I didn't like it. Hated the arrangement … hated the performance, hated the vocal, didn't like anything about it."  Luke Menard was thrown overboard for his performance "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go." Yawn!

So now the remaining contestants who have made it to the Top 12 are:

• David Archuleta
• David Hernandez
• Jason Castro
• Kristy Lee Cook
• Michael Johns
• Ramiele Malubay
• Syesha Mercado

So you know what's coming next week. The top 12 will  now perform in a two-hour episode on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. and one among them would be eliminated on Wednesday at 9 p.m.
