American Idol Guys do dedications to lovers, wives, babies, grandparents and more.
1 ViewsAmerican Idol got very sloppy emotional and this week with the songs dedicated to the ones they love. Unfortunately some of them thought that meant a boring slow, low energy song. A ballad every now and then is OK but this was just too many of them in one night. Fortunately Blake Lewis, Sundance Head and Chris Richardson saved the night.
Another high note this week for American Idol was one of their own, Jennifer Hudson, winning an Oscar for best supporting actress. The show is an incredible machine for bringing some great talent into the main stream so the public can enjoy them.
The show started off with Phil Stacey singing “I Ain’t Missing You” and doing a very nice job of it. What happens if he wins? Does he stay in the Navy? Randy Jackson said, “That was hot.” Paul Abdul thought that Phil’s voice had, “a nice tone to your voice.” She went on to say. “Right now I can hear you on the radio.”
Simon Cowell said he “Doesn’t think he is unique.” He did say he, “Will be back next week.”
Jared Cotter tried to be more adventurous doing a Marvin Gaye song, “Let’s Get It On.” This brought and awkward moment when Paula said something about the thrust and Simon had to step in and rescue her with a comment about this being a family show. I thought that Jared stepped up and go it on.
Simon said, “It was like the love boat.” Jared was quick with the reply, “That would have been a great love boat.” The audience loved that.
AJ Tabaldo comes on almost to sweet and young to make it work. He started the song very soft and easy then let it rip as he built up to a great performance.
Randy said, “So much better than last week.”
Paula really liked him saying, “Real, real, real, real, real good voice.” I think I counted the real’s correctly.
Sanjaya Malakar went for a whole new look, sound and vibe that I liked but the judges didn’t get. He does need to open his mouth more so the sound comes out better because his teeth are blocking his singing. He needs to put more energy into it.
Paula might be right that he should go for younger songs. I liked what he tried to do but he might not make it to next week to try something new and upbeat.
Chris Sligh is somewhat of an enigma. He does not look the part of a rock star, he is so laid back and low energy when he talks and then he sings. I love his singing. He also has one very hot looking wife. The song just built and built until I loved it.
Randy, “Good choice.” Which it was.
Paula, “Real awesome.” She used up her extra awesomes already so he only got one.
Simon gave some rare praise saying, “Tonight you were a very good singer.”
Nick Pedro almost burned down the studio with his version of “Fever” one of my favorite songs. Paula said she, “Loved the tone of his voice.”
Simon thought that Nick lacked charisma.
Just when I thought I was going to fall asleep from all the ballads and old stuff Blake Lewis saved me. He was up, entertaining and did something current. Blake got Paula up out of her chair and rocking for the first time.
Randy liked his beat box and scatting. Pala thought is was a good choice and Simon criticized it as unoriginal. Nobody knew what Simon was talking about.
The B-Train, Brandon Rogers, brought us back to slow, unentertaining songs. Simons finally called for a return to a singing competition and enough emo.
Chris Richardson brought us back to the current time period with a great upbeat song. He does need to hold the mic closer so he will get a better and slightly deeper sound.
Simon said, “Chris is in it to win it tonight.” He went on to say, “ I’m lovin you tonight. Best tonight by miles.”
The whole show was saved by Sundance Head. I picked Sundance as the guy to go all the way back in the original rounds. Last week I thought I had been very wrong. He has moved back to the top of my list to make it to the end and if he doesn’t he will come out of this competition with an amazing career and lots of sales. His choice of song was brilliant, “Mustang Sally”, because it was entertaining. That is what we want, to be entertained.
Randy went for multiple word usage saying, “Wow, wow wow.” He exclaimed, “What a difference a week makes. That was hot”
Paula went over the top with her compliment, “The like the best vocal we’ve ever heard.”
I think one of the girls will win but that is for the next show. Sundance will make it a long way.
