American Idol: The Rat Pack Performance Night
Tuesday night, the remaining five Idol wannabes, sang songs themed around Rat Pack- the 1950s all-male singing group. The five were really thrilled to have TV personality Jamie Foxx as their mentor.
Up first to sing was Kris Allen, who gave a noteworthy performance singing “The Way You Look Tonight.” The singer managed to retain the original flavor of the song. While it was subdued, the singer managed to create an impression on all judges except Simon, who said Kris’s performance was a “little bit wet.”
Alison Iraheta managed to prove that she can go beyond rock songs, by singing her version of “Someone to Watch Over Me.” While Paula found her singing of the ballad "alluring and very tender", Simon thought it wasn’t Idol-winning material.
Matt Giraud’s performance failed to match up to those of his fellow contestants. While he did receive a positive reaction from the audience the judges were not so enthusiastic. While Kara appreciated his innovations he brought to the song, she felt that he did not emote well with his voice. Randy simply said the song did not work from him. Simon’s view differed and he felt that Matt’s was the most “authentic” of the all the songs sung that night.
Danny Gokey managed to wow the judges, and for the first time that night all four agreed with each-other. Paula called his act “a stellar, stellar, stellar” performance, while Kara lavished praise on him for the creativity he showed in his song towards the end.
Adam Lambert gave a strong performance(as usual!).While Randy commented that it was “too theatrical, too dramatic”, Simon retorted that this was like complaining that a cow moos. By all parameters, Adam is safe for wednesday nights results show.
However, the same cannot be said for Matt Giraud. Do watch tonight’s show to find out which Idol contestant will be shown the door next.
