American Idol- The Winner Is…!
The moment of truth has finally arrived. The finale of one of American Idol’s fiercest competitive seasons of all time. The final voting and the crowning ceremony of the victor took place last night with extraordinary fanfare.
According to American Idol host Ryan Searcrest, 97.5 million votes were cast for last night’s performance and the split between the two Davids is 56 percent to 44 percent. The figures look more like the split between Hilliary Clinton and Barack Obama in the preliminaries in various states. The show started off with a group sing of "Get Ready" by the Top 12 American Idol contestants. Again, the group performance had a weird feeling to it and it felt that the contestants were singing more out of an obligation and didn’t seem to enjoy it at all. After this, David Cook and David Archuleta took the stage to sing a duet of Nickelback’s ‘Hero’ and this time it felt really good!
Before the results were announced, Ryan told both Davids that they each have won a Ford ‘Hybrid’ car. The crowd went crazy and the cheers that erupted could have easily surpassed the SuperBowl finals. This was followed by a lot of formal stuff, for which I’m not going into the details. Trust me, it was just simply ‘irritating’.
Result Time:
No melodrama and no dimming of lights this time, just plain and simple result announcement. It was quite surprising because, considering the magnitude of the night, I was expecting a lot of delays and that the show would be dragged for no reason (which it eventually was). Anyways, Ryan Searcrest took the stage and said, “And the winner, by 12 million votes, is David Cook.” After the result, Cook had a perplexed look and all he could think of doing at that time, was to congratulate the runner-up David Archuleta. The 25 years old from Blue Springs, Missouri had auditioned in Omaha, where he had come to support his brother’s American Idol audition. Well, after tonight, I’m sure they’ll be sharing a lot of memories for a very long time.
After the show there was a huge press conference where David Cook said, “When they said my name, I heard Archuleta, so I turned, then it processed as I was turning. I just told Archuleta that I loved him, I’ve definitely got big brother syndrome with him. I’m proud of him. I’m proud of what he was able to do — from start to finish. He was the front runner from the get go. So to be able to carry that torch all the way through, my hats off to him. I couldn’t have done it." Lastly, he added, “I haven’t celebrated in four months. I’m gonna do all this fantastic press, and then I’m going to go hang out with my friends and family, and hopefully let it sink in."
So, this is how the American Idol went by and gave us a winner that no one had predicted would win, except Simon Cowell. As of now, there has been no statement from the 17 years old Texan, David Archuleta. But for now, all eyes are set on David Cook and glorious future that lies ahead of him.
Congratulations, David Cook! Keep up the good work and Rock On!
