American Idol- Top 7. Who will Go Home?
1 ViewsYet another night of phenomenal and bad performances. American Idol last night, became a concert as well as the scene for an extremely emotional reunion. The theme for last night's performances was 'Mariah Carey's Songs'. The show turned out to be a breeze for the guys as they were all appreciated for their efforts for singing a female vocalist's song. However, the girls on the other hand had a rather unpleasant time, because of the constant comparisons being made with Mariah Carey. At the end of the show, Simon Cowell said, “"I've got tell you, the guys completely won the night."
'Who' sang 'What' and 'What' did they 'Get':
David Archuleta: Before getting on the stage for his performance, David was extremely nervous and stated that he isn't worthy of being in Mariah's presence. He performed 'When You Believe”, which went splendidly well. Simon Cowell remarked, “I have to agree. I would have bet $1 million on you choosing that song in advance. I just knew that was the one from the opening line. I thought it was very, very good. I don't think we're in for a lot of laughs tonight though… At least you're smiling. Look, you set the benchmark. I think the guys are going to have an easier time tonight — funny enough — than the girls. Because there's not the comparison. But you sang it very well… I don know the song very well, and I have to tell you, you performed that very well."
Carly Smithson: She was all upset and sad about losing Michael Johns in the previous elimination round. Performance time. Carly sang 'Without You ', which split the judges opinions. Paula Abdul said, “I actually like that you showed some vocal restraint at the beginning of the chorus and then swelled and soared. That's what I love about your voice. It's choosing different parts and making it your own especially from a great artist like Mariah Carey."
Syesha Mercado: This 21 year old singer from Florida chose to sing 'Vanishing' as her song for the night. After her performance, Simon gave a somewhat mixed remarks saying, "I think once again technically it was very, very good indeed. Having said that, I'm not sure at this stage in the competition I would have chosen a song which not many people know about. So you run a risk."
Brook White: Brook chose to play the piano with her chosen song for the night called 'Hero'. Simon gave quite a quirky remark stating, “ Brooke, I don't think you had much choice other than to do what you did. Having said that, it was a bit like ordering a hamburger and only getting the bun. In other words the vital ingredient like the tomato, the onion and the relish were missing. I don't think your voice is strong enough to carry that song."
Kristy Lee Cook: Kristy, with the hopes of connecting with her song for the night 'Forever', gave it all she had and just waited for the judges comments. Randy Jackson said, “I've got to tell you, I didn't think that was amazing but there were a couple of pitchy notes in the first part. But I've got to tell you, you definitely started stepping up towards the end. You hit that note at the end, I was like, 'Whoa! Everybody's starting to step up tonight!".
David Cook: David chose to sing 'Always Be My Baby', which became an iconic performance in the American Idol history, with Randy giving him a 'standing ovation'. Simon said, “David it was like sort of coming out of karaoke hell into a breathe of fresh air. That was original, it was daring, it stood out by a mile. This is the sign of a great potential artist, someone who takes risks. Congratulations.” For David Cook, this night was especially important as his cancer stricken older brother had come all the way from Indiana to Hollywood to watch his brother perform. David couldn't help himself and cried after the performance. He said that he was thrilled to see his brother there.
Jason Castro: This 20 year old from Texas, chose to sing 'I Don't Want to Cry'. Jason received a mixed response from the judges. Randy Jackson said, “For me, I didn't really love that. I felt like I was at a weird beach luau and somebody was playing some music in the distance. It was weird for me. I didn't get it." To this comment, Paula Abdul said, “Jason, I'd love to be at that luau dancing all night long. I'm not kidding. You're getting so confident and so in that zone. It's just lovely to hear you. Again, I'm so proud of everyone tonight. They've done a great job."
So, these were the Top 7 finalists who gave their best to stay in the competition. Tomorrow, it's 'Judgment Day'. Till then we just have to wait and vote to make sure that our guy or girl isn't the one going home.
