American Idol- Top 8 go on the 'Inspirational' path

Last night the top eight American Idol contestants picked up the pace vying for the coveted title of 'American Idol'. The theme for last night's event was 'Inspirational Songs'. So one by one, the contestants took the stage and showed why they deserve to be in the top 8.

Michael Johns sang 'Dream on'. The performance was really one of the best that Michael had shown in the last few weeks. Simon Cowell said, “I thought it was a very good performance.”

Next came in Syesha Mercado, who chose to sing Fantasia's  'I Believe'. Randi Jackson wasn't that impressed and said, “It was ok, just ok.” However, Paula Abdul had something else to say, “I just think hands down this is one of your most shining nights.”

Jason Castro gave a mind blowing performance when sang 'Somewhere over the Rainbow' and the judges just couldn't find any fault in that one. Simon said, “First time, I heard that version I wasn’t sure; second time, loved it; third time, fantastic.” Randy Jackson further complimented Jason by adding, “Dude, Jason Castro is back in the hunt. That was the hottest so far tonight.”

Next in line was Kristy Lee Cook who chose 'Anyway' as her preferred song choice. Her performance was something to be reckoned with. Paula Abdul said, “I think you outdid yourself tonight.” Also Simon Cowell, the harshest critic of all couldn't help but appreciate Kristy's performance and added, “I thought you were very, very good, indeed.”

David Cook sang 'Innocent' and gave everything to it, but still couldn't impress the judges. Randy Jackson said, “I’m not sure this was one of your strongest weeks right here.” This could be a turning point for David, because such remarks can be one of the driving factors that can throw him into an abyss called, 'The Bottom Three'.

Carly Smithson chose 'The Show Must Go On' as her preferred ticket to the top 7. After the performance, it seemed that her ticket to Top 7 could very well become her ticket back to home. Simon Cowell said, “It actually came over as kind of an angry performance” and Paula Abdul also expressed her disappointment by saying that she didn't feel any connection between Carly and the song.

David Archuleta sang 'Angels'. This 17 year old kid had so much passion towards the song that it compelled the judges to give nothing but the best comments and appreciate his efforts. Randy said, “That was your hottest moment of the whole season.” Simon Cowell added, “Best song choice of the night so far.”

Brooke White sang 'You've got a friend'. Paula Abdul said, “I think it was the perfect way to close the evening.”. However Simon seemed to be in two minds and that was quite clear with his comments when he said, “It was nice. Was it original? No. Was it pleasant? Yes.”

So now it seems, that it is going to be a really close race as to who gets into the bottom three and finally gets eliminated. It's just getting better and better.
