American Idol Trims Down to ‘Top Three’
The Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame theme proved to be the mirror for each of the four contestants’ strengths and weaknesses. After a terrific performance form David Archuleta and a terrible performance from Jason Castro, it was now time for the results. The performances from the theme night from all four contestants put the judges’ comments at the extremes of ‘Good’ & ‘Bad’.
The elimination round as usual began with a group encore and for last night, the group performed "Reelin’ in the Years".
After the childish group encore, it was time for the results. Ryan Searcrest was looking quite excited and he was kind enough to share his excitement with the audience stating that nearly 51 million votes came in for the elimination round and there was a difference of just one million votes between all the contestants. David Archuleta was called upon the stage and after a few words, he was declared safe and sent back. On a personal note, Ryan should really go easy on the kid. David was looking dreadful and no amount of smiles could hide his anticipation when he strode on to the stage.
Next came David Cook, he looked calm, composed and by the looks of it, it seemed he somehow knew that he was safe. Man! I guess David is a psychic or something, because it turned out that he indeed was safe. Syesha Mercado and Jason Castro were up next and they came as pair, and odd looking one at that (I mean, come on think about it. Syesha with Jason Castro, just won’t make any sense). Anyways,. Ryan never declared them as the bottom two and he flatly declined Jason’s request for a quick result. Honestly, Jason looked like a person about to be executed.
After a short commercial break, Maroon 5 took the stage and rejuvenated the audience with their performance. Back to the results and this time Ryan didn’t waste any time and immediately declared Syesha Mercado as ‘Safe’. This left Jason as the contestant with the lowest count of votes and this ended Jason’s run at American Idol.
Surprisingly, Jason looked relieved and he just ended the night with a final shot at Bob Marley’s ‘I Shot the Sheriff’. After the show Jason reacted to his ousting from American Idol and said, “My natural reaction, I just really felt relieved that the pressure was off," Castro told reporters during a Thursday conference call. "I loved my time on there and I would have liked to go farther, but I don’t think I could handle it. So I’m content."
Reflecting back on his time on American Idol, Jason said, “This whole time I’ve had a blast, and I was trying. But it’s just really been hard, and last night I remember — before we found out the results — I was just really starting to fear the week ahead if I made it. ‘How am I gonna do three songs? I can’t even do two right.’ With the hometown visit it was just going to be a lot of work, even though it would have been so much fun. I was just freaking out about it. That was all building up, so I was ready to go."
Well, keeping all the mushy stuff aside it is time for a reality check. It is down to David Cook, Syesha Mercado and David Archuleta. No offense to Syesha, but I am quite certain that almost everyone wants to see a final showdown between both Davids and I wouldn’t be surprised if next week America votes off Syesha Mercado.
As for for Jason, you had a good run man. Great performances, great attitude. Keep Rocking!
