Carly Smithson nee Hennessey, born on September 12, 1983 lives in San Diego. Influenced by Heart, Celine, Lynard Skynyrd, Ray Charles, Whitney Houston , Rolling Stones, U2, Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash and Annie Lennox. She also draws inspiration from Aretha Franklin and Pink Floyd. Smithson has already released an album in 2001, titled Ultimate High and won a Meteor Award for Best Irish Female Singer in 2003.

She had auditioned in Las Vegas for the fifth season of the American Idol and reached Hollywood. But she was disqualified because her visa had expired. Carly started singing at the tender age of 3 and took some formal training later, which she didn’t enjoy much. She has been quoted saying that her being tattooed and Irish give an edge in the competition.
