Jason Rene Castro was born on 25 March, 1987.  Son of Colombian parents, he was the first one in his family to be born in the USA. This 20 year old comes from Rowlett, Texas. An all round musician, he can play guitar and drums as well. Befroe coming to the lime light through American Idol, Jason was majoring in Construction Science from Texas A & M University.

Jason has also appeared on the MTV reality show Cheyenne and also showed in Cheyenne Kimball's video Hanging On. Belonging to a close – knit musical family, Castro played drums in a local band named Keeping Lions. "He's got his own style and he's sticking with it, and I think that's what's winning over the judges. He's got down solid the whole mellow, chill, heartfelt aspect,” says Micah Kinard – former bandmate.

"I think they must know him through other kids," said Tiffany Karns, a teacher at Rowlett High School. "The students are really excited and there are signs all over the building."
