Lakisha Jones leads off on American Idol with a Donna Summers hit
Opening with a Donna Summer song, “Let’s Dance” Lakisha Jones has chosen the perfect song for her great big voice. An amazing performance by Lakisha Jones on American Idol. Donna Summers is such an icon of the disco scene she earned the title “Queen of Disco” in the seventies. Donna Summers even managed to sty on the charts into the eighties, something the other disco stars did not magneto do. She has earned recognition in other genres such as R&B, Roc and Roll and even Gospel. This has placed her in the stratosphere of the music industry selling over 150 million albums. Think about it an artist receives at least one dollar per album. Artists today are happy to sell just ten per cent of that.
Donna Summers started like American Idol star Melinda Doolittle singing back up for Three Dog Night. She first had success in Europe and then had an idea for a song title, “Love to Love You Baby” a song that defined the disco era and made her a star. Her seventeen-minute version made many a disco dancer gasp for breath.
In 1979 she came out with the “Bad Girls” song and album. Yikes that just kept her going as a major star. This song was so everlasting it was covered by the Eurythmics, New Order, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Madonna, Bronski Beat, and a slew of other New Wave and techno bands. In 1083 she did it again with her hit single and album “She Works Hard for Her Money” run away hit.
Donna Summers to this day remains in the very thing atmosphere of those that have made amajor impact on th music world and sold more albums than most major artists.
