Let’s start with probably one of the least talented in the line up, Antonella Barba and her topless photos. She really can’t sing very well but could get a career as a model in the future, maybe topless. Talk is that she has topless photos floating around on the Internet. Big deal, who cares. Who doesn’t? She did get rude and snippy with the judges saying she did not listen to their criticisms because they were wrong about Jennifer Hudson. It seems Antonella Barba doesn’t even know how American Idol works. Simon quickly explained it to her. The judges put Jennifer Hudson on the show Simon explained; the American public voted her off. I guess attitudes like Antonella’s is what Simon was talking about when he complimented Melinda Doolittle for having incredible talent but not being a spoiled big ego.

The back up singers got a few mentions. Does anyone know who they are? What have they done before? How about the band, especially the drummer.

How many of the contestants have auditioned before? How many times for each one?

*** Stephanie Edwards was my early pick to win when I heard her the first time. She has a great voice, very likeable personality and she can really sing. Melinda Doolittle is going to give her a run for the money. The competition among the ladies is at a much higher level than the guys, so this is a very difficult call. Well Stephanie Edwards is the victim of a pushy mother who forced her out of bed and dragged her to the audition. Thnks mom we appreciate the gift of such talent. Stephanie looked so great and sang even better. Randy thought that “she sang her face off.”

Leslie Hunt came out to try and not “flap” because of a criticism from last week. She was flapless this week and had her moves down. I thought she was very entertaining, something the other contestants fail at. Randy said, “I love you.” Simon thought she was good but that she had just been whacked by 3 or 4 big singers.

Haly Scarnato put on one of the more enjoyable and entertaining pieces with some get down rock and roll entertainment. Paula Abdul thought Haly “Was so much better this week.” Simon gave her an A for effort.

Sabrina Sloan has a great voice and sounded like the original of the song. This is good but doesn’t address what Simon is looking for; originality. For a singer to succeed they need to have their own sound, Cher has her own recognizable voice. Paula said, “She showed her voice off.” Simon thought that “she would be back next week” and “that she is a player.”

Lakisha Jones; poor choice of clothes, great voice. Lakisha will have a recording contract before this is over. I love her voice. Randy said, “That was hot.” He thought that she has a “big ole voice.”

Simon had a lot of good things to say about Lakish Jones second only to Melinda Doolittle’s compliments. Simon said, “You’re re a phenomenally good singer, you can believe you are going to be a big star.” Simon did say, “I didn’t like the outfit.” Randy came in with, “More fashion advice from Simon,” in a sarcastic tone.

Gina Glockson, nice looking can’t sing very well compared to the big singers she is facing. Probably gone next week. Simon thought that her vocals were forced.

Alaina Alexander was flat, nice looking but out of her league here. Randy thought her pitch and tuning went away. Paula agreed that her “pitch was off,” Simon thought she ran out of steam like Randy running the hundred yard dash. A visual we need to forget now.

*** Melinda Doolittle is the best singer in the competition. She is slowly coming out of her back-up singer persona. Her singing “Funny Valentine” was flawless! She is nice, does not have an “attitude” problem and is loved by the audience. She could be the winner if she could get a little more energy into the whole presentation.

Randy Jackson was very exuberant saying, “We got a competition going on. You are the one to beat.” I agree with Randy.

Simon Cowell doesn’t hold back when he likes someone’s performance. He said, “That was incredible! What? The best vocal we have heard… Breath of fresh air.” Simon also complimented Melinda on her attitude and humble approach unlike some other spoiled contestants that have been on the show that did not have talent.

Melinda Doolittle is not a back-up singer anymore and might win American Idol. At the very least Melinda will have a nice singing career. I would go to hear her
