Fergie is finally “The Dutchess”
Fergie’s real name is Stacy Ferguson and she was the member of the band The Black Eyed Peas. She had a soulful but strong voice, and evokes vibrant energy, that is what makes her stand out in the band of The Black Eyed Peas. Earlier, this year she saidtold in an interview that she will be starting her solo project, but she won’t be leaving the band. Recently, she released her debut album The Dutchess, where she attempts to widen her sound into different genres. What’s more, Fergie is extremely talented to compete with the likes of Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera, and with the release of her latest debut album The Dutchess, she is all set to capture the world with her voice.
The tracks in The Dutchess are Fergalicious, Clumsy, All That I Got, London Bridge, Pedestal, Voodoo Doll, Glamorous, Here I Come, Velvet, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Mary Jane Shoes and Losing My Ground. Tracks such as Fergalicious and Here I Come are fun and is good listening. to hear They areand is flirty too but it contains lines that often do not esn’t at all carry any make sense, such as "My body stays vicious/ I be up in the gym/ Just working on my fitness." Still somehow they work because of the dance floor productions that carry reference to the hip-hop of 80s and also Motown of 60’s. Not that the album is without plus points. The first single London Bridge and Clumsy is mind blowing and is brilliant. This single, that will really make her fans appreciate her becaisefor it contains a Little Richard sample over some funky beats andas well as tunes. Then there is “Voodoo Doll” that very frankly deals with her much publicized drug addiction and also the sexy and tempting R&B of “Velvet.”. In “On Pedestal”, she puts forth her views on the critics who always has have something to saw to say something about her, and , that they keep on negatively criticizeizing her instead of beomg doing something productive with their comments. On “Fergalicious,”, she sings that Fergalicious is to make the boys go crazy. Now that is something news to the audience. One wonders how she gets those ideas. The first single “London Bridge” she quotes the most famous line from the film ‘Me love you long time’. In the album, one of the boldest moves comes on “Here I Come.”, where she manipulates pop perfection by sampling The Temptations.
One thing about Fergie can be said is that she has taken the post-modern step of self-parody on her debut LP (CD?). Although she might be one of the most talented member of the Black Eyed Peas, still it is not enough to launch a career as a solo artist., as in her album she hasn’t shown her enough talent. Still she has got her own trademark of style and delivery. One important thing is that her album The Dutchess is a misspelling of the former title of Sarah Ferguson, who holds the title the Duchess of York and with whom Fergie shares her surname as well as popular nickname.
