Oscars go to really bad movies.

The Academy Awards did not fail my expectations that it would be the results of opinions of a small group of people. I made it a special point to see “There Will Be Blood” just before the awards because my friend wanted to see the awards. She said the movie was Ok but not great. I did not see “No Country For Old Men” because a friend told me it was one of the worst movies he had ever seen.

“There Will Be Blood” was a rambling poorly told story with it uncertain who was who and no real plot. Was Pual Eli’s twin or Eli with a different name? It was made worse by an irritating sound track that sounded like something was wrong with the speakers in the theater that added to the discomfort created by the movie.

“The Academy” likes to pretend they know what is art or at least good movies but history tells this is just not true.

Chad Doreck | Grease: You’re the one that I want.

Chad Doreck sings live. He was in a sing off last week but survived. This week he was right on. He was in the bottom two last week, this week he did the best job of singing and performing yet. I think Chad Doreck is the one that we want.

The former Orange County High School of the Arts student does Shakespeare and says “The one thing I have is acting chops over these other guys.” I agree, he has the ability to do it all; act sing, perform and mange his career. He sings “Hard to Handle” and gets down as he makes it happen.

Best Danny performance of the show, way past everyone else. Gets into the girls personal space like he is Danny in love with Sandy. He was personal and made it his own.

The panel voted for Max. I think it is between Max and Chad from this point on. The others are not even close. “That pretty looking guy would sell me millions of tickets.” The panel member said about Max. Max had gone to the boxing ring to get some more physicality that the judges want.

Derek Keeling looks like a great soap actor, the panel thinks another contestant is too pretty but Derek is the perfect one to be in a soap opera. Too pretty to be Danny, he does have a BA in theater from the University of Kentucky.

When contestants get ready Monday morning they get their song and need to learn them that week.

Allie was voted with the least voted for.

In the sing off of the girls the two were both terrible, the first one that performed was just slightly worse than the second one. It is raining in the song and it is making them both sing very poorly.

Chad Doreck brings “Grease Your The One I Want” stories to his old high school.

Chad Doreck one of the four remaining contenders for the part of Danny in the musical “Grease” spent his lunch break hanging out with Orange County High School of the Arts’ students. The school is often reffered to as OCHSA by those who are involved with it. Doreck graduated from OCHSA in 1997 and was in the Music and Theater conservatory. Chad told the group of very talented students about how hard it was learning so many different songs each week for the television show. The talented music and theater student Avery Grant responded with a sarcastic, “Oh right, cry me a river.”

Instead Chad sang a Stevie Wonder song, “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours”, the song he did on “Grease You’re the One I Want”. One student, Hannah Solow, held up a big sign read “Marry me, Chad.” She explained that wanted to marry him because, “He has talent, he can sing,. I realized he’s godly.” He repeatedly asked the students to vote for him and even emphasized the fact that they could each vote 200 times. He did explain that they shouldn’t vote for the girls because then they could not vote the full 200 times for him.

The Orange County High School of the Arts that Chad attended was at the Los Alamitos high school. It is now located in Santa Ana, California. Some other notable graduates of the school are Drake Bell Susan Egan and Matthew Morrison. Two other OCHSA alumni have already been cast in roles for “Grease” which starts in June. Lindsay Mendez, class of 2001, has been cast as Jan, one of the pink ladies and Anna White, class of 2002, will be in the ensemble cast. Mendez said that she had a much easier auditon process than Doreck with only one auditon and three callbacks. Doreck has been auditioning for five months now.

Chad went outside and signed autographs on head shots that he just happened to bring along. The whole lunch break was the Orange County High School of the Arts version of a pep rally. The school’s group “The Kids Next Door” performed a medly of Grease songs and dances to fill out the rest of the rally.
