Born on December 28, 1990 in Miami, David Archuleta lives in Murray. He started singing at the age of seven. Though his fellow students and teachers heard him sing holiday carols, nobody could believe that the painfully shy teenager would be a star on American Idol. Probably David has inherited music from his father Jeff Archuleta, who plays the jazz trumpet and mother Lupe, who is a singer.

He sang on various episodes of  the TV series Star Search and won the junior singer division in 2003. "I can't believe how well he's doing because he's just so painfully shy”, said his 11th-grade English teacher Chantel Thackarey. "My personal belief is that he has no idea what a big deal he is," said Kaelin, to whom Archuleta first went for vocal training before appearing on Star Search. Kealin further adds that David is a focussed and hardworking musician.

Archuleta has been a favorite for a series of popular performances. He plans to continue hiss school as well as singing, if he fails to become the seventh American idol. Natasha Bedingfield, Natalie Cole, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Bryan Adams and Kirk Franklin are his favorite pop artists and he has been greatly influenced by Bryan Adams, Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder and Kirk Franklin. He is destined for superstardom, says Paula Abdul.
