I survived a Japanese Game Show
1 ViewsThere is a new show on ABC at 9pm called “I survived a Japanese Game Show”. I had never seen it before, but happened to be searching through the channels and it caught my attention. In a nutshell it is Most Extreme Elimination Challenge mixed with Survivor.
For example, last night’s game was ‘Human claw’. Remember the arcade game where you try to get a toy out with a claw? Now imagine you are the claw, and you are hands are wrapped in cardboard claw shapes. You then have 3 teammates moving you, each with control of only 2 directions and you yelling to tell them where to lead you? Definitely hysterical.
Then of course, the winners get pampered and the losers…don’t. This week, the winers went to a Japanese spa, with traditional treatments of sand burial and fish that eat dead skin off your feet! The losers were foced to clean balls and serve drinks in a Pachinko Palace. And the losers then have to eliminate someone.
In addition to the games and elimination, the entire crowd, host and crew is Japanese, speaking Japanese, with dubbing in English. It reminds me of the old SNL skit with Chris Farley and Mike Myers:
All I can say is any show that makes American’s do silly things while they can barely understand what is going on is bound to be good… Anyone else watching it? What do you think?

After watching the debut, we were highly entertained and looked forward to the next show. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. Constant bickering and treachery–which seem to be the unimaginative, worn-out staples of every reality show. On "I Survived," this quickly became tiring and we turned it off. Don't plan to watch anymore episodes cuz this isn't what Japanese game shows are about. They're fun and wacky and that's what we largely expected from this one.
